Welcome Home Little One

Well, it is pretty apparent that I have been absent for the last week or so. I swear I have a good reason though, our little bundle of joy decided to make his way into the world a bit early. Here is the story:

Thursday, December 10

Our last doctor appointment was at 39 weeks, and was also the appointment we set up an induction. Based on my doctor's rotation, we were all set to go to the hospital to have a baby on Tuesday, December 15. Well, obviously as soon as you plan something things are bound to happen differently. We left the appointment excited to know that the day was quickly approaching and soon our little guy would be here with us. At that, we continued on with our lives as normal.

Friday, December 11

Again, life went on as usual. I had some contractions every once and a while, but nothing that was throwing my life off track or getting consistent/stronger. That night though was a different story. Around 11 p.m. I started noticing that my contractions were getting stronger and staying pretty consistent so I started timing. By midnight they were 8 minutes apart.

Saturday, December 12

I rolled over and woke Nate up to let him know that I was having contractions and was going to stand up for a bit to make sure they stayed around and see if they continued to get stronger. His response was okay, just tell me when they are closer together and then he went back to sleep. I decided to take a shower to keep me up and then see what happened. By 1 a.m. they were 5 minutes apart and slightly stronger. Around 1:30 we made the call to the doctor (which I felt very guilty for waking her up about). She said to wait another hour and see if they get stronger/closer still before heading in, just to make sure it wasn't false labor.  Well we waited until 3:30, by which time they were coming about every 3 minutes. Now they still weren't stop you in your tracks strong, but they were strong enough that I was uncomfortable and decided it was time to go in and get checked.

By the time we made it to the hospital and were put in a room, I was staying steady at 3 min apart and was about 3 cm dilated. They kept me for an hour or so to see if I made any progress and then kept making sure I wasn't wanting any pain medication or anything yet. I explained that I wanted to go as long as possible without medication and then they decided the best route then would be for me to go home until I was to the point where I really just couldn't stand it any more. This way I could walk around and be comfortable instead of laying at the hospital all day.

We came home around 5:30 or so, got some breakfast and then Nate got a warm bath going for me to try and help ease the soreness in my back. Then we both tried to get some sleep, it doesn't work that well. I think I got a grand total of 2 hours of sleep. Eventually I gave up on sleep and we both headed downstairs for some more breakfast. Following breakfast we took a walk. I knew I needed to keep myself moving. After some general clean up around the house and a little sitting around we headed out for another walk.

Around 3 that afternoon we were off to the hospital. I really just couldn't take it anymore and was praying it was time. After being checked again, I was still not quite 4 cm but my contractions were definitely stronger. The doctor had the nurse tell me to just walk around as much as I can for an hour at the hospital before they checked again. If I made any progress they were going to admit me.

During that hour was when I started to get contractions that legitimately stopped me in my tracks. It was probably the slowest Nate has ever walked in his life, but he stuck by my side through the constant laps I was making. About 40 minutes or so into it I got tired of walking so we headed back to the room for good. By the time I was taking the last bite of my protein bar, the nurse came in and said we were getting admitted. Looking back I am so beyond grateful for that protein bar. Once we were admitted (about 4 o'clock) I was put on a clear liquid diet, never have chicken broth and Gatorade tasted so good.

 photo December_Camera_Hospital_20101027_0001_zpsa5dagwzb.jpg

I spent the next 7 hours bouncing on an exercise ball, trying to make due with just Pitocin in my IV. Our parents were there which was a nice distraction. However by 11 p.m. I had hit my limit and the anesthesiologist was brought in to give me an epidural. At this point I had gotten maybe 3 hours of sleep since waking up Friday morning, so getting the epidural and the relief I felt from it was exactly what I needed and I was able to sleep for a little bit.

Sunday, December 13

My water broke on its own when I was 8 centimeters and I got to 10 centimeters pretty quickly after that. Around 3:45 a.m. the nurse had me start pushing and and hour and a half later I was holding our precious little boy.

 photo LeightonWayneHospitalPost_zpsrarymzme.jpg

I cannot express the feeling I got holding him for the first time. This tiny human that grew inside of me for nine months is finally here. The process was long and hard at times, but I had the best support system ever. Nate was my rock through it all and helped me keep going when I felt like I had no strength or energy left.

Leighton Wayne Blair was born at 5:14 a.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2015. He weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long.

We have survived two weeks with this little one and are doing our best at this parenting thing. Just like with my pregnancy and labor we couldn't do this without the support of our friends and family.

Bumpdate | 37 Weeks

Using one of my "maternity" pictures this week instead!

[How far along]

We are at 37 weeks! Only 3 weeks left (fingers crossed).

[Size of the baby]

Leighton is the size of a leek (approximately 19.1 inches and 6.5 pounds). Since I am full term now, if my labor starts they will just let it happen! Come on baby, we want to meet you!

The Waiting Game

Man, I really was dreading Monday this week. Having four days off in a row was just really relaxing. I am going to be honest, I slept quite a bit. This kid/pregnancy is just exhausting me and I am trying to soak in as much sleep as possible before he comes.

[Thursday]

Obviously, Thursday was Thanksgiving. Well Nate and I were not feeling to comfortable traveling this year since Leighton could really decide to come at any time now so we stayed home. My mom and one of my brothers ended up joining us and together we made some pretty yummy food.

Before that though, we headed to the park nearby and snapped a couple of pictures. I didn't really care about getting the standard maternity pictures. Honestly I just didn't feel like I needed a lot of pictures of my belly, what am I going to do with those? I had pictures of it from almost every week already so I didn't feel like it was necessary. That being said, we basically just had a few "family pictures" taken that I happen to be pregnant in.

Second Star to the Right

 photo Title image_zpso8lex6f4.jpg

Honestly, as soon as we found out we were pregnant, I started to think about how to decorate a nursery. A theme popped up constantly - Neverland - and it has stuck true to today. I never wanted it to be an in your face them with pictures of peter pan everywhere, but I wanted little pieces that connected back to a general grouping of people (fairies/mermaids/Indians for a girl and the lost boys for a boy). Once we found out what we were having, you can see that reveal here, I went full force with a little Lost Boy's/Neverland inspired room. It is finally completely done and ready to share so enjoy the pictures below!

The food though...

If I were to go back and pick a theme from the weekend, it would be food. Lots of food. It was all really good food too. I mean, that is a successful weekend to me!

[Friday]

So on Thursday, I finally got around to making the lasagna I have been talking about for two weeks now. It was a not so pleasant experience and I doubt I will ever attempt to make more than one at a time again. Anyway, Friday night we had our friends over for dinner and ate one of the pans of lasagna. I must say, I was impressed with myself. It was yummy and just what I needed on a Friday night. The rest of the evening was spent chatting and letting dogs play. You know, the typical Friday night of married twenty-somethings that don't spend every free night at the bar. I love these kind of nights, they are refreshing.

[Saturday]

The last few weekends that we have been home on Saturday, I have been making breakfast/brunch for Nate and I. This week I decided to try something new and we had Cinnamon Toast Pancakes. Holy yum. They were kind of chewy (I think I over mixed them), but the flavor was really good and knowing they were decently healthy helped too.

Friday Lovin' | November 20

Alright, we made it to another Friday. I've got a car seat check, a doctor appointment, friend dinner, church and a lot of cleaning between now and Monday so I am sure the weekend will fly by. Until then, let's talk loves for the week.

1 | Shonda Rhimes

Really though, I cried multiple times again last night (during Grey's specifically). She gets me every time.

2 | Products

[John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss]

So obviously my hair has been through a lot. After being brunette for almost my entire life (all but a short, barely blonde period in college), I took the plunge and really went for it. I loved it, but after we moved I didn't want to find a new salon and it was a lot of work. So I ended up coloring my hair dark again (like back to my natural, I think) and it stayed put for about one wash. It is really just a couple of spots that lightened up, but still. So I ran out to Wal-Mart and grabbed a bottle of this stuff just hoping it would do the trick. It did. My color isn't perfect still, but it is a lot better in the faded areas and I only notice it because I know where to look. I have only used this once and it says to use once a week for a month for full results so it can only get better right?

Bumpdate | 36 Weeks

 photo 36weeks_zpsbvmllg6g.jpg

You know things are getting real when your pregnancy app adds a new button saying "Baby Arrived" and when you download a second app for timing contractions easily. This got here fast.

[How far along]

We have made it to 36 weeks! Ah I can't even believe it. There are only 28 more days (or more or less) between us and our baby boy. I'm still feeling the 6th, so 11 days early. Not sure why, just sounds right.

[Size of the baby]

Leighton is approximately 18.7 inches and just under 6 pounds (like always, if he is like the average baby). This makes him the size of a coconut or a winter melon. Sheesh! He is for sure running out of room, I can attest to that.

Bumpdate | 35 Weeks

 photo 35weeks_zpsl03t2ihi.jpg

This kid is wearing me out and he isn't even here yet. Here is my update for 35 weeks a couple days late!

[How far along]

We are 30 days out from Leighton's due date. Any guesses on when he will actually make his appearance? Nate and I have been joking that he won't come on time and I will be induced on Christmas Eve, labor until Christmas day and then he will decide it is time. Lately we also have said that he will come early (on November 30) since I have two necklaces that have December birthstones in them. I guess we will see huh?

[Size of the baby]

There is a human inside of me that is the size of a Honeydew Melon...well then. So he is about 18.2 inches and 5.5 pounds (if he is like the average).

[Weight Gain]

Just over 33 pounds now. I found where my stretchmarks were hiding too, all on my butt. I was waiting to see them, I've earned these stripes.

[Symptoms]

Well, like I said, I have found the stretch marks, but my belly button is also getting worse. Seriously regretting that belly button piercing right about now. Saturday night I laughed a little too much I think and now I have a sore spot. One doctor call eased my worries, it is a nice strained muscle. Other than that I can no longer fit my ring on and am just starting to really feel the typical aches and pains of being this far along. I can't wait until this little guy gets here though!

[Gender]

We are having a little boy! The reveal story is here

[Nursery Update]

Still needing to buy diapers/wipes but otherwise it is done! I am finally ready to take pictures and share with the world!

[Craving]

I really, really want a cookie again. Unfortunately all I have at home is a box of cake mix so that was what I defaulted to.

[Projects]

Storage solutions
Organization Ideas for closet
Art/pictures on wall
Heartbeat print
Lost Boys Blocks
Maternity picture list
Newborn picture list & prop shopping list
Hospital bag packing list
Diaper bag packing list
Peter Pan Hat
Dream Catcher
Cradle Sheet

The nursery is done. Like really done. So are my lists for the hospital. Our bags aren't 100% packed yet, but they are close enough that I could throw a couple of things in each really quick and we would be fine if needed. On to the lists for pictures!

[Random]

The idea that all of our plans are being made with an asterisk by them from now on is so crazy to think about. Also the fact that Nate and I are staying home and making Thanksgiving dinner for just us is weird too. To top off the craziness, I keep walking downstairs and seeing my Christmas tree up and that is just driving me nuts. I am a very strict no Christmas until after Thanksgiving kind of person.

And we are packing

Well last week was my last week of traveling for work and this Thursday will be the day that my doctor told me is the end of traveling period. Lordy that came quick. Anyway, we didn't do any traveling over the weekend, but we did stay busy and laugh a lot (which I am paying for now). I know I disappeared last week, but honestly I am just exhausted and keep getting distracted with baby things. So here is to hopefully a good week, both in life and on this blog of mine.

Bumpdate | Weeks 33 & 34

 photo 34weeks_zpsapkj5dj1.jpg

Yea, I don't have an excuse for why I didn't post my update last week. I mean life happens and I got distracted, let's be honest. So here is two weeks of updates in one!

[How far along]

The countdown is under 40 days. We were at 34 weeks Thursday, which means only 39 (give or take a few days possibly) stand between us and our new life with this little boy.

[Size of the baby]

Butternut Squash or a Cantaloupe. So he is about 17.7 inches and 5 pounds (if he is like the average).

[Weight Gain]

31 or so pounds. It is crazy to see these numbers. I still feel pretty good though and I am so thankful for that.

[Symptoms]

I am definitely starting to feel hot more often, until recently I honestly had been cold more than hot. Baby brain is happening, Nate thinks it is just an excuse but I believe it is real. I have noticed a bit of swelling in my hands throughout the day, but nothing crazy or painful. Truly though, I think having 32 weeks of easy sailing is starting to catch up with me, as I expected. Honestly, I think the best thing I have been doing to help with everything is just drinking a ton of water. I was starting to get a lot of leg cramps and I really bumped up my water intake and ever since I have felt so much better. I also came up with a simple workout plan to keep me moving until the baby comes which has been good. Squat 'til he is here is the motto for the next 40 or so days.

[Gender]

We are having a little boy! The reveal story is here

[Nursery Update]

It looks so adorable, yeah I am biased but still. We are definitely ready for baby. Needing diapers, wipes and a few little things but if he would come today we would be fine.

[Craving]

Well lately I have really been wanting a cookie. Apples are still high on my list though too!

[Projects]

Storage solutions
Organization Ideas for closet
Art/pictures on wall
Heartbeat print
"bearskin" rug?
Lost Boys Blocks
Maternity picture list
Newborn picture list & prop shopping list
Hospital bag packing list
Diaper bag packing list
Peter Pan Hat
Dream Catcher
Cradle Sheet

Progress is being made, this is seriously all I worked on this all last week and have been working on it all this week too. Sharing it all soon (next week)!

[Random]

I have last minute lists that I am working on finishing up. One of which is our hospital bags list. Any must have or must leave items from you other mommies? Also working on getting the diaper bag ready. It is so real now I can't even believe it!

So last Sunday at church, I underestimated how big my stomach was and how close the railing on the kneeler was and I bumped it and almost fell off. That would have been embarrassing...

We had our breastfeeding class this week and I am feeling a lot better about it all. Breastfeeding in general is one of the only things that is causing me a bit of anxiety so it was nice to leave with some peace of mind.

Friday Lovin' | November 6

This has been a pretty awesome week, and it has really flown by. Here are the things that have made it even better.

1 | This Partnership

[source]
I think everyone was in shock and awe listening to this version of Drink You Away this week during the CMAs. Honestly, it was amazing and I have watched it/listened to it multiple times since it originally aired.

2 | Products

[derma|e Hydrating Night Creme]

I received a jar of this lovely creme c/o BrandBacker and derma|e and I am beyond ecstatic about it. I have been using it for about 5 days now and my skin feels/looks so much better. The fall weather has really done a number on my skin and I credit this nourishing creme with all the positive change that I have seen. I will be doing a Fall Skincare post next week so be on the lookout for that to see what has been making my life lately.

[Lip Service by LUSH]

I have started really laying this on thick while I am doing my makeup. My lips have been super chapped lately and I have noticed a huge difference since I started using it.

3 | These words

As I was scrolling through Bloglovin' this week I came across this article and I just felt like I was meant to. So often I struggle with patience and I know with Leighton coming anytime in the next 6 weeks my patience will be tried over and over again while he grows up.

4 | Original Songs

More specifically, this one.

We were watching The Voice this week and Nate and I both perked up when we heard someone would be singing this one. Unfortunately, he didn't do it justice (in our humble opinion) so I immediately headed to Spotify and pulled up the real thing. It will forever be a favorite song of mine.

Really though, I am still not okay with this.

And that is the list. Hopefully tonight I can add a new car to this list. Two weeks of not having one has led to a very homebody life for me.

Happy Weekending Friends!

Hello, November

 photo November_zpszc93p2xv.jpg

I will welcome November with open arms this year. We are that much closer to our little guy getting here, and the fact that it has been in the 70's during the day has just been the cherry on top. That being said a lot of my currently topics will revert back to baby stuff because that is what is happening.

October Ipsy "Unboxing"

 photo Oct2015_zpsnfmsdonv.jpg

I love these little bags of heaven. This month's theme was Alter Ego and the bag itself won me over before I even opened it up. It is gold on one side and patent black on the other and almost a square instead of a rectangle. Again, they made it a bit thicker and sturdier than the first on I got so that is awesome too. On to the products!

Two years & a Hole in One

This is the first time this year I have been happy about a Monday, and it is only because it is a reminder of the best day of my life. Today Nate and I celebrate 2 years of marriage! Sheesh how time flies. Two years ago we were counting down to our wedding day and now we are counting down to the birth of our baby boy. Who would have thunk? Anyway, on to the weekend.

Friday Lovin' | October 30

And just like that it is the end of October. Sheesh I though time flew by in college, but seriously it just keeps going faster. Anyway, here are all the things I am loving lately.

1 | Nursery Progress

I am going to do a full post once we get our last two things in for it, but it is really coming along! We have all the wall art (except the dream catcher) done and pretty much everything ordered that we need. Little man is going to have the coolest room in the house.

2 | Products

[Morphe 35O Palette]

Goodness I am just so in love with this palette. Honestly the colors are perfect and the formula is great. I am still trying to figure out the best eyelid primer to work with these but so far I have been loving each look I have done with it.

 photo Snapchat-493429197130040899_zpsuu4yc3jn.jpg

[Palmer's Cocoa Tummy Butter]

What on Earth would I do without this stuff. The space where my belly button ring used to be is starting to actually get kind of painful so I am loading it up with this stuff.

Recently rediscovered this love of mine when I was going through my bin of back up items. It leaves my skin feeling so fresh and clean, and it helps with the acne that is ever so slightly there still. I have a a.m. and p.m. skincare routine coming next month so be on the lookout!

[Beesential Beeswax Lip Balm ( Lemon & Lavender)]

I was given this by a friend and I love it. It is such a refreshing scent and the lip balm itself is a really great texture. My lips love it.

3 | Vampire Diaries

Do I really need to explain myself? I am just as obsessed as I was in the beginning, the current season is bumming me out a bit but it won't stop me from watching.

4 | Halloween

Dressing this bump will be a bit of a challenge this year, but I always love Halloween.

A Whole Lot of Empties

 photo Empties 1_zpsjtkingwo.jpg

When we first moved into our house and started unpacking everything, Nate made a comment to me about how much back up product I have. Things that I got to test and then never finished the bottle or lotions that I bought in bulk during sales - you get the idea. Well I kind of took the comment and put it in the back of my mind for a while, and then in June he again brought my attention to all my stuff by saying he just wished he could open a closet/bathroom cabinet without seeing my back-up stockpile. Well I listened this time and I must say I did some damage on my products. My empties bin is overflowing and I am full of thoughts and opinions on these products. Maybe one of these reviews will help you decide what to try next and what to skip.

Here we go...

Bumpdate | 32 Weeks

 photo 32weeks_zpsyerb7fkv.jpg

[How far along]

We are at 32 weeks! Ah this kid could be here in 8 weeks (give or take).

[Size of the baby]

Little man is still growing, and the reference for size this week is Bok Choy or a squash... So we are looking at about 16.7 inches and 4 pounds.

[Weight Gain]

Just under 30 pounds. Still feeling good about everything.

[Symptoms]

Every single time I lay down I feel nauseous lately (I am not laying on my back, sides only). Like I have said to some friends, I am pretty sure that 32 weeks of easy pregnancy is going to catch up with me eventually. There is definitely a bit of what seems to be round ligament pain, and I am having occasional Braxton Hicks contractions. Nate and I are preparing for the back pain to return and have the kanesio tape sitting out ready to go. Still not dealing with heartburn so I am guessing this kid is going to come out bald (this is not just a wives' tale apparently - article).

So other than all of that, I feel like I have been sitting on a bike for the last two weeks and I cannot drink enough water to keep my legs from cramping. I still am enjoying being pregnant though (for now haha).

[Gender]

We are having a little boy! The reveal story is here

[Nursery Update]

We are making progress and it would be almost ready for the little guy if he would come today. Missing some small stuff (like sheets and such) but for the most part it is good to go!

[Craving]

I have defaulted back to strawberries, bananas and apples. Seriously nothing is better.

[Projects]

Storage solutions
Organization Ideas for closet
Art/pictures on wall
Heartbeat print
"bearskin" rug?
Fairy moss jars
Peter Pan Hat
Dream Catcher
Lost Boys Blocks

I have everything for the Blocks bought, parts of the dream catcher are ordered and some of the stuff for the pictures on the wall. I also ordered the heartbeat print and it should be here soon!

[Random]

I thought this kid was moving a lot before, but the past few days it has been even more than before. They are stronger kicks and movements too (obviously) so that has been fun. He has kicked Remi a couple of times and the dog didn't even react, just kept relaxing using my stomach/the baby as a pillow.

Goodness time is flying still. I guess we should start thinking about hospital bags huh?

Second Star to the Right

Well happy Monday! It really is a good morning for me because I started doing baby laundry last night and everything smells like baby now. Nate doesn't know what I mean by that, but someone out there does right?

[Friday]

After work, I headed south with 4 of my college friends. We about all ate our arm on our way down because we were so hungry, but we made it in time to hit the Amish buffet and everything was right in the world. After dinner we headed to my grandparents and talked with them and my mom a while before heading to bed.

[Saturday]

I started off bright and early getting ready for the baby shower. Honestly, I could have woken up later and got ready fast but I like taking my time and letting myself get distracted with other things along the way. Anyway, the shower was brunch and my mom and grandma (and great aunts) kicked butt with it. The decorations were adorable and the food was perfect. This little guy is so loved by so many already and I feel so blessed to have such a great support system.
