What you know 'bout me

What you know 'bout me
What you
What you know 'bout me

I'll stop there, but I felt it was appropriate for this post. I mean here I am, sharing my life with all of you everyday but there is so much you probably don't know about me. That being said, here are a bunch of random facts about yours truly. Enjoy!

I really want a white tattoo, but will never get one.

My favorite movie of all time is Sound of Music.

I was a four sport athlete in high school.

My high school had 100 kids in it.

I used to sing the National Anthem before every home basketball game.

I love a cappella music.

I have never gone to an Amish party (my sister still doesn't believe me on this).

I have a really big obsession with shoes.

I never wore lipstick in high school.

I didn't fill my eyebrows until this year, like ever.

I was in a modeling/acting school when I was in middle school and that led to a competition in LA where I placed 2nd.

I got my first pair of stilettos in 7th grade.

My mom made me walk around my house and prove that I could walk correctly in my heels before I could wear them in public.

I like wine, a lot.

I really want to run a half marathon, sometime in my life.

I have never, not paid off my credit card.

I watch a lot of YouTube videos.

My nickname is Katibug Ladybug and has been since our neighbor called me that when I was little. but my mom also calls me Tilly.

That is all for now, I have to keep you guessing about some things in my life right?

And because I started with this song, it only felt right to end with it!

Hope your day is poppin!

Halloween inspiration

So I am an avid YouTube watcher in the beauty world and during the month of October it seems like every third video has been a Halloween makeup tutorial. That being said I have pulled together my favorite looks so far!

Of course I have to include the one I channeled for Halloween and the one that my lovely friend drew inspiration from too.

What are looking at for Halloween inspiration?

Marble floors aren't my friend

Let's all jump into our time machines shall we, and travel back to my freshman year of college. I am in John Krull's journalism class - it was our first real story writing class which usually meant a lot of fake phone calls and pop in "witnesses" to different things. This day however was different because we were taking a trip to the Statehouse.

We were told to dress up so in my mind that meant a dress with a cardigan and heels obviously. The heels of course were too high to be walking around Indianapolis in and did not have a lot of tread on them, since I was a poor college kid and bought my shoes from Charlotte.

Anyway, so there we are walking through the statehouse getting a tour of where all the action happens and BOOM down I go. In the rotunda in front of everyone. So embarrassing! Luckily, my then friend (she who shall not be named now) grabbed my arm and had me back on my feet almost before I hit the floor.

Lesson learned though, when walking on marble floors always wear good shoes.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

Superstition or OCD

I am not a superstitious person by any means, however I do have a few quirks that I find just make life better. Whether or not they are superstitions, ODC tendencies or just oddities I will let you decide.

1. No odd numbers - like ever
Unless it is in a sport, then 7 wins every time or 14 or 21 (so multiples of 7)
2. Again with sports, always chew gum while pitching
3. No compliments from Dad until after the game (another high school sports one)
4. Find one of your eyelashes not on your eye anymore? You better make a wish
5. Never leave cake batter or cookie dough in the bowl, it needs to be clean before you wash it or the bowl will probably break

Like I said, nothing crazy here.

What are your superstitions or quirks or ODC issues?

Sriracha Shrimp Lo Mein

Nate and I are somewhat similar when it comes to our food choices. I am typically more adventurous and am not quite as picky, but he has definitely gotten better and will try things. We both really like Chinese food and spicy food though so this was the perfect meal for us. It was also decently easy, and working together it probably took about 30 minutes from start to finish.

Ingredients:

Lo Mein noodles
Shrimp (we used cooked/cleaned salad shrimp)
Zucchini
Mushrooms
Onion
Soy Sauce
Sriracha Sauce
Brown Sugar
Garlic
Butter
Olive oil
Red pepper flakes
Eggs
 Cilantro

Start by cooking the noodles according to the package instructions. While the water for the noodles comes to a boil, mix the sauce ingredients (Soy, Sriracha and brown sugar), gently beat the eggs and cut up the veggies. Melt butter in skillet with red pepper flakes, and once the completely melted add eggs. Stir the eggs until completely cooked then remove from skillet and set aside.

Increase the temperature of the stove to medium-high and add the shrimp to the skillet (heat up half the oil in the skillet before adding shrimp). Cook the shrimp until they are bright pink and firm, then remove from skillet and set aside with the eggs.

Add the last of the oil and all of the veggies (zucchini, onion, mushrooms and garlic) and increase the heat again to high. Cook until slightly charred or to desired texture (Nate doesn't like soft zucchini so I didn't cook it as long).

Mix egg, noodles, shrimp and veggies in the skillet and top with the sauce. Continue to mix until everything is coated evenly and finish it off with a sprinkle or a handful of cilantro.

This recipe is a good one to add your own personal touch to. When I first found it, there was only zucchini and I wanted more vegetables. They also included ginger and sesame oil in the sauce and I am not a big fan of either so I opted out. We added a little extra sriracha and soy sauce at the end just because we felt like it too.

Overall the husband gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars, and we both said it is something we would make again. It is a very hot dish, but the brown sugar helps balance it out a bit.

The whole recipe is available below in index card form - perfect for a recipe box!

Download full PDF version here.
Recipe adapted from Baker by Nature.

How would you make this your own? Will this make it in your recipe box?

Thanks for reading!

To the younger me

Oh, if I could write a letter to me at 15. There are so many things that I would love to tell myself. High school was rough for me, and a pretty dark time when I look back on it. I had terrible self esteem and no respect at all (for myself or my parents). My siblings did not like me and it was basically a miserable time for all. I was lacking in my faith and looked elsewhere to fill voids. I was hurt by the boys I chose to "love" and my best girl friends weren't always much better.

All of high school wasn't terrible, and I did have some good friends that are still my friends today. I would love to give my younger self some advice though to make things just a little easier. Granted everything happens for a reason and the road that I traveled is what brought me to Franklin College and helped me find the love of my life. The bumps along the way made me wiser and is why I am who I am, but I could have survived without some of the drama.

Advice to the younger me:

Girl settle down.
You are white and drive a VW, stop it with the bad rap and heavy bass.
Be a better role model.
Your mom will be your best friend, be nicer. Actually, so will your sister so be nicer to her too.
Lose the 'tude.
You will find happiness.
The world isn't a terrible place.
All guys aren't d-bags, they don't all cheat on you.
The good friends are still your friends.
Buy some bigger clothes.
Don't quit softball.
Don't you dare do a lot of things.
Never cut your hair shorter than your collar bone, you look 12.
Lipstick is your friend, so is a good concealer.
Don't doubt that God is with you, it all gets better I promise.

Basically, stop being a drama queen and trust that everything will work out. Keep your family close and make sure to tell Oma you love her. Life gets better, high school is tough for everyone. You will find the man of your dreams that treats you like a princess. You will find new friends, and keep some of your old ones (the good ones). You will grow up and so will the people around you. Your family will forgive you for being the queen b*tch and life will move on very happily.

Keep your chin up pretty lady, and remember God made you for a reason and has a plan. He always has a plan.

Love,
You in 8 years

Just another manic Monday & a giveaway

Morning peeps!

This weekend was a totally unplanned one. First of all, Nate and I decided to go out to dinner (classy Applebees' date for the win) and I had my second steak this week. I am pretty sure my body is about to go into shock from all the beef I have consumed as of late. After dinner we headed to the grocery store and picked out pumpkins to carve. No pictures yet though, you have to check back later this week to see it with the rest of my fall decor.

I woke up Saturday thinking that I had to work a Komets game that night and so my plans did not include an elaborate costume for a friends party that was also going on that night. After I checked the schedule though, I realized I did not work and I immediately started racking my brain for a costume idea. Both Nate and my BIL shot down my idea of dressing like Miley Cyrus so I turned to twitter for help.

As you can see y'all were no help. So I decided I was going to be a skeleton and with the help of Martha Stewart and Chrisspy I made it happen.

She was clearly better at the skull than I was, but for a last minute/first attempt at it I think it turned out pretty well.

It was a nice night spent with friends dressed in silly costumes - I was the only one who took a darker route with the outfit. We had a cheetah and a hunter, Scooby and Shaggy, a skeleton (me), and an earlier version of my husband (my brother-in-law). This will be the only Halloween party this year probably, it works for me!

Sunday hit hard. I woke up with a slight fever and sore throat so other than getting the dog out for a walk I did a whole lot of nothing. Looking back on it I am a bit stressed now about the rest of the week and all I have to get done, but I will get it under control!

Now, on to the days of #blogtober14 that I missed.

October 25 | My Favorite Book

Is Your Mama a Llama (Reissue) (Paperback)
Buy it here

Okay, so my favorite book is a children's book. Judge me. When I look back though at all the books I have read and which ones make me smile this one tops the list. I just remember reading it with my parents and other siblings and it is just a good reminder of younger days.

October 26 | Who would play you in a movie

Rachel Bilson

First of all she just seems so sweet and happy, so I would love her to play me. Also, it is who I always get told I look like so it seems fitting. I still don't see it, but people tell me it all the time so I who am I to argue.

Check back later today for another #blogtober14 post - a letter to your younger self.

And finally.... It is giveaway time! You can read all about the lovely giveaway below and at the bottom of it all is a link to the entry form. Good luck! I love Scentsy warmers, we always have one going at home.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

Find it here

I have mentioned my love for this concealer many times, but lately my love for it has grown even more. Now, with my traveling for work lately my dark circles seem to have gotten darker and this stuff is still working for me. I really can't complain about it, and honestly if I had to pick one makeup product I couldn't live without it would be this!

The Best of Me

Buy it here
As I was waiting for my flight home this week, I decided to pick up a book to read and this one caught my eye. I am really a firm believer in reading the book before you see the movie, so The Best of Me was on my list. So far I really like it and am about halfway through - yeah, I started it yesterday...

Wasabi Mashed Potatoes

So, I didn't get a picture of these because they looked like just plain mashed potatoes, but oh my goodness they were spectacular.

This Candle

For as long as I can remember, I have always thought the smell of pipe tobacco was amazing. I blame my momma for this one, she always commented about how good it smelled if anyone around us was smoking one. As I was walking through Marshall's one day I saw this lovely guy and just had to buy it. When I saw a second one I knew it was meant to be and snatched it up as well (for my mom). Luckily I did because as soon as I posted this picture on Instagram, my mom text me saying she needed to have that candle - like mother, like daughter.

My Amazing Faux Find

If you have been reading my blog this month, you know I was on a mad search for a faux fur vest. Well, thanks to Marshall's I found one without spending a fortune and I was beyond excited about it. Nate on the other hand, isn't so thrilled.

 Mmmm, and this monster salad

For some reason I was really craving a taco salad, so for dinner on Monday that is what we had. It was just what I was needing and tasted perfect. It was nothing too special - taco meat, cheese, salsa, beans, corn and a little ranch to top it off!

That is all for me! What is on your favorites list this week?
